SITE SOLUTION

The final site solution was determined by its unusual constraints and parameters.

The site consists of 2 very narrow and oddly shaped properties, diagonally across from each other and on opposite sides of a national freeway (interstate).

This unusual configuration was the determining factor in the final shape of the building, which needed to be linked together by means of bridging across the freeway, to link the 2 properties together.

When exiting the freeway from the off ramps in both directions, vehicles access gas (fuel) stations on ground level underneath the building, which required some innovative fire and blast proofing protection of the structure overhead.

SUSTAINABILITY

With the building oriented along a North South axis, the design incorporates a number of sustainability technologies such as solar penetration control devices over most of the glazed Western and Eastern facades, green roofs and the fact that inhabitants who live AND work in the building, do not require automobiles to commute to and from work. It also grants easy access to the nearby intercity express railway, which further reduces the need for cars.

Built halfway between 2 existing metropoles, 87km / 54 miles from each one, as a major hub along an inter city express railway line and an interstate highway, to encourage and facilitate long term growth between the 2 existing metropoles.
